BUCHANAN – The Indian Point nuclear power plant will conduct a test of it emergency notification sirens on Wednesday, February 11, between 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.
As part of the test, sirens will sound at full-volume for approximately four minutes in Westchester, Rockland, Putnam and Orange counties. The public is not required to respond during the siren sounding.
In an actual emergency the siren sounding would alert the public to tune in to a local emergency activation system radio or television station for important information and direction. The sirens are not a signal to evacuate.
A list of the stations is included in the emergency planning booklet mailed to households and businesses in the 10-mile emergency planning zone around Indian Point.
An electronic version of the booklet is on the Indian Point website, www.safesecurevital.com .
