Kingston police mark 96th anniversary of officer’s death

KINGSTON – It was 96 years ago on Saturday that Patrolman James Lawrence died. The Kingston city officer succumbed to a stab wound he had sustained the day before.
Lawrence attempted to arrest a drunken man who was creating a disturbance when he was stabbed. The officer was able to fire a warning shot at him.
The police department noted that Lawrence was the second Kingston officer to die in the line of duty.
