NEWBURGH – Citizens Opposed to Dirty
Energy, or CODE, is seeking support from the Newburgh City Council in
their effort to oppose the transport of crude oil and other “dirty”
energy through the city.
CODE member Deborah Dresser said they have three issues on their agenda.
“The proposed Global Oil expansion on Newburgh-New Windsor waterfront, whose aim is to receive, store and transfer and process dangerous Bakken crude oil and tar sands oil, and number two, the continued transport of Bakken crude oil-filled bomb trains traveling through our city – and I might say, on very shaky infrastructure,” Dresser said. “And number three, the proposed Pilgrim Pipeline, which is proposed to transport crude and refined petroleum products from Albany, New York to Linden, New Jersey with two lateral lines that terminate at the Hudson River directly north and south of the City of Newburgh,” she said.
The CODE group would like Newburgh to adopt a resolution opposing the Pilgrim Pipeline and at first glance, it appears that the city council is amenable to that.
