KINGSTON – Ulster County officials will explore solidifying a policy of charging county jail inmate insurance policies if they require medical or dental services.
The county can charge inmate policies now, but this would make it more
of a firm procedure, said legislature Law Enforcement and Public Safety
Committee Chairman Thomas Briggs.
“This law makes it more policy and something that as we go further into things with the companies that do our medical coverage at the jail, something we can incorporate right into those contracts, which would make it a smoother transition and might be in their best interest to get that money as well,” Briggs said.
The county legislature will hold a public hearing on the proposal on Tuesday, March 17.
