MONTICELLO – The Appellate Division of State Supreme Court has affirmed the murder, robbery and weapons convictions of a Monticello man who pled guilty to the June 2009 murder of Carl Williams near the Shore Garden Apartments in Monticello.
David “DJ” Perkins also pled guilty to robbery and criminal possession of a weapon in Sullivan County Court in October 2010.  He was sentenced to 18 years to life in prison. He admitted to participating in the robbery and killing of the 25-year-old Williams.
Perkins challenged the voluntariness of his confession to police and argued that his sentence was excessive. The appellate court rejected all of his arguments.
Perkins and Ja’Quis Lowery, also of Monticello, who is serving a 15-year to life sentence for his role in the murder, admitted to setting out to rob Williams while both men were armed with loaded illegally possessed handguns. Perkins was determined to be the shooter.
A third man, Lawrence Watson, was also convicted and admitted to directing Perkins and Lowery to rob Williams with the loaded guns. He is serving 22 years to life in prison.
