HUD grants Mid-Hudson over $22 million in homeless housing funds

NEW YORK – The US Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded agencies in the Mid-Hudson Valley a total of $22.3 million to support local homeless housing and service programs.
HUD spokesman Charles McNally said the government provides similar funding each year.
“These are annual continuum of care grants that HUD releases to fund emergency shelter as well as services including job training, health care, mental health counseling, substance abuse treatment and child care,” McNally said.

Columbia and Greene counties, 13 grants total $461,000. The largest one, for $160,000, is for permanent, supportive housing for the homeless and mentally ill.
Orange-Dutchess area, 18 grants total over $2.6 million with the largest one, $565,100 going to the Regional Economic Community Action Program.
Westchester County, a total of $16.7 million will be granted to 40 programs, the largest of which is $7.6 million for the county Department of Community Mental Health.
Rockland County, six programs will receive $678,000. The largest grant, of $267,000, is for transitional housing.
Sullivan County, three programs will receive a total of $438,000 with the largest one, at $271,400 going to the Council on Alcoholism and drug Abuse.
Ulster County, 12 programs will receive just over $2 million. The largest grant, at $310,300, was awarded to HUD single room occupancy housing.
