GOSHEN – Reconstruction of the shuttered
Orange County government center in Goshen will begin in the next several
months. Bid packages are now available for prospective contractors. Submissions
will be opened next month.
County Executive Steven Neuhaus expects actual work to begin once the weather breaks.
“I believe you will see contractors starting to show up on-site within the next few months and I think you will actually see some construction and deconstruction work begun by spring of this year,” Neuhaus said.
The project includes remodeling of a large portion of the existing building and demolition of another section, which will be replaced with new construction.
Neuhaus recently vetoed a bill that would have seen the facilities sold to a private developer. Legislature Chairman Stephen Brescia, who supports the county remodeling, said he opposes any efforts to “derail” the work by overriding the county executive’s veto.
Goshen Mayor Kyle Roddey said the government center rebuild “has been a long time coming.” Village merchants have maintained their business has been severely impacted by the closure of the facility since September 2011.
