WAWAYANDA – A Town of Greeneville man was killed Thursday morning when the car he was driving on I-84 east slammed into the rear of a state transportation department dump truck.  Robert Pascoe, Jr., 54, was dead at the scene.
The accident occurred at the exit 3 interchange in the Town of Wawayanda
while a DOT truck was stopped partially in the center median and partially
in the passing lanes.  One state worker was outside the vehicle in
the process of retrieving a deer carcass from the center median. Two more
DOT employees were inside the truck.
Pascoe was eastbound in the passing lane and struck the rear of the state truck pushing it further into the center median.  His car rolled over and came to rest on the eastbound shoulder.
The eastbound lanes were closed for four hours.
At about the same time as that accident, a truck caught fire on I-84 east in Fishkill, causing authorities to shut down that section of the highway. Traffic was backed up for miles while that mess was cleaned up.
