MONTICELLO – Police in Monticello are looking for two men who tried to rob a taxi driver at gunpoint on Monday afternoon.
Two men got into a Sureway cab at 2:10 p.m. in the area of the cul-de-sac at Evergreen Drive. After the men got in the vehicle, one pulled a handgun and demanded money from the driver, but he struggled with the suspect and was able to get out of the cab while slamming the door on the suspect’s arm.
The taxi was still in gear and drove into a snow bank where it came to rest against a chain link fence.
The two suspects fled into the Evergreen Drive housing complex.  Officers recovered a realistic looking air pistol from the cab, left behind by the suspects.
The man armed with the pistol was described as black, about five feet, eight inches tall, wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and a white and black bandana covering his face.
Anyone with information is urged to call Monticello Police in confidence at 845-794-4422.
