Ulster Jail inmate arrested for possessing prison contraband

KINGSTON – A man being held in the Ulster County Jail without bail on an unrelated charge has been arrested on charges that he possessed prison contraband.
The Ulster County Sheriff’s Office detected an odor of smoke coming from an inmate’s cell during a head count procedure. A K-9 was deployed and the cell was searched with marijuana, match heads, rolling paper and a partial tablet of Seroquel being recovered.
Robert Kovacs, Jr., 26, of Saugerties, was charged with promoting prison contraband and unlawful possession of marijuana in connection with the cell search on Friday night, January 9.
