KINGSTON – The Ulster County discount card program, FAVOR (Find & Assist Veterans of Record), is being expanded to include surviving spouses.
County Executive Michael Hein said widows of service personnel may now continue use in the program.
“Sometimes when people pass, the question is would their wife then still have access to those benefits and I couldn’t fathom a situation when we weren’t providing those same level of benefits to a survivor in a situation like that,” Hein said. “I am very pleased to say we have now extended that to both the individual and their spouse for the balance of their entire life.”
County Clerk Nina Postupack, whose office issues the FAVOR cards, said, “We all know that members of the military are often expected to answer the call of duty first. We must also remember the loved ones who are left behind to endure their own personal sacrifices as a result of this service. Extending the Return the FAVOR Program allows us to give something back to those who have given so much of themselves.”
