Newburgh gun violence grant nets 13 arrests

NEWBURGH – Newburgh Police cracked down on the area of Carpenter Avenue and Carter Street on Tuesday using it Gun Involved Violence Elimination (GIVE) grant funds to address drug trafficking in the area and as a result, 13 people were arrested and 180 decks of heroin were seized.
Two people were arrested on charges of felony sale of heroin – Victor Rivas, 56, of the City of Newburgh, and Hector Davila, 42, also of Newburgh. Eleven others were charged with misdemeanor drug possession.
“The area targeting during the detail has been analytically identified as an area of gun related incidents,” said Acting Chief Daniel Cameron. “We recognize that many gun related incidents are driven by the sale and purchasing of illegal narcotics” and he pledged to continue to use grant funding to eliminate gun violence.
