TOWN OF WALLKILL – The Pine Bush School Board would like the state to consider allowing school boards statewide to have their members elected by the ward system instead of at-large as is the case now.
The Wallkill Town Board has gone on record supporting that effort. Town Supervisor Daniel Depew said a ward system would make for more representative governing, regardless of the entity.
“You could potentially have a whole school board or a whole town board coming from the same region of a town and how that could really hurt the decisions that are made and how they could lean and be looked at through a real monocular point of view and the ward system is a much better way to go about it,” Depew said.
The town board is going to transmit its support for school district wards
to state officials in Albany.
