MONTICELLO – Sullivan County Acting District Attorney Meagan Galligan has locked up the endorsement of the county Independence Party in her bid to win the district attorney post.

The Democrat has already been cross-endorsed by the county’s Republican committee.

Her challenger, former County Court Judge Frank LaBuda, a former Democrat who recently changed party enrollment to Republican, has vowed to stay in the race.

“I am proud that Sullivan County’s Republican and Independence Party Committees have joined the Sullivan County Democratic Committee in recognizing my record of integrity, fairness and dedication to public safety with their endorsements,” said Galligan. “The overwhelming voice of the committee members is a clear message that I am the best choice to hold the Office of District Attorney, which is a position that does and must transcend politics and partisanship.”

LaBuda was required to step down as judge because of the state’s mandatory age 70 retirement age of judges.
