Rhinebeck – With heavy hearts and deep sorrow, we announce the untimely passing of Ryan James Wolfe, a devoted son, loving father, and dedicated patriot. Ryan departed this world on May 17, 2024, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY, leaving a void that can never be filled.

Born 49 years ago on July 27, 1974, in Akron, Ohio, Ryan is the cherished son of James and Diane (Toal) Wolfe. Throughout his life, Ryan exemplified courage and commitment, traits that defined his journey from Ellet High School, class of 1992, to a distinguished military career in the United States Army, serving 6 years with honor on active duty in Korea and Fort Hood, TX, and then for another 17 years in the Ohio and New York Army National Guard.

Ryan’s dedication to his country was unwavering, culminating in two valiant tours in Iraq, earning him the distinguished Bronze Star Medal. Ryan retired from the New York Army National Guard with over 20 years of dedicated active service, to include his fulltime assignment with the New York Counterdrug Task Force.

Following his military retirement, Ryan continued his service to the nation as the Suicide Prevention Program Manager with the New York National Guard Family Programs office and, most recently, enjoyed the comradery of being part of the security team at Vassar College.

While Ryan’s service to his country brought him great pride, his true joy resided in his role as a father to his three beloved children – Brandon (Ana), Ella, and Ava. An ever-present figure in their lives, Ryan found his greatest purpose in moments spent cheering on his children at school events, calling them daily and eternally supporting them with love and tenderness.

In addition to his children, Ryan leaves behind his adoring sister, Tracy Wolfe Martin, his nephew Clay, niece Chloe, and a host of aunts and cousins who will always hold his memory dear.

A celebration of Ryan’s life will be held at Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home in Rhinebeck, NY, on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, with calling hours from 4 PM to 6 PM, followed by Funeral Services and a time of sharing at 6 PM. A warm gathering at the American Legion in Rhinebeck from 7 to 9 PM will offer solace and support to all who wish to pay their respects.

Ryan’s final resting place at Arlington National Cemetery will be a fitting tribute to his service and sacrifice, to be honored next year.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Ryan’s honor can be made to the Gary Sinise Foundation, a cause close to his heart.

May Ryan’s spirit shine eternally bright, his legacy of love and loyalty forever cherished by those who knew and loved him. Rest peacefully, dear Ryan, your memory will endure in our hearts forevermore.
