Richard D. Usewicz

BEEKMAN – Richard D. Usewicz, Sr., 87, of Beekman, passed away on June 20, 2024, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. He had been a resident of Beekman for 52 years, previously living in Flushing, Queens, and East Setauket, Long Island.

Born on February 16, 1937, in Flushing, Queens, Richard was the son of Adolph and Antonia Usewicz. He graduated from Flushing High School in 1955, where he excelled in football. Richard served in the US Naval Reserves and retired from Western Electric in New York City in 1991 after 34 years. He was actively involved in Beekman Little League, proud of his championship team in the 1980s, and coached for the Beekman Soccer Club. Richard was a member of the Beekman Fire Department for 31 years, serving as Fire Police Captain.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Yosca) Usewicz; his children, Mary (Frank) Talbott, Sue (Jesse) Decker, Richard (Janeth) Usewicz, Carolyn (John) Montenegro, Joseph (Laurie) Usewicz, Edward (Jennifer) Usewicz, and Douglas (Kate) Usewicz; his brother, Robert Usewicz; 19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Richard and Barbara fostered and cared for many children through the years, including children from the Fresh Air Fund. He was predeceased by his parents, his son Thomas Usewicz, and his sister Joan McNamee.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 25th from 4-8 pm at McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, June 26th at 10 am at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction. Burial will follow on Monday, July 1st at 11 am at St. Denis Cemetery.
