Michael J. Leahy, Sr.,”Mickey” passed away on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at the age of 89. He was born in Lixnaw, Co. Kerry, Ireland on October 12, 1933, the son of James and Bridgette (Dowling) Leahy.
Michael immigrated to the United States in 1957 settling in Bronx, NY before moving to Mahopac, NY 1973. He was a retired paper handler and worked in the newspaper industry for Local 1, Paper Handlers and Straighteners in Manhattan.
On April 30, 1960, he married Agnes “Tina” Edwards at St. Nicholas Tolentine Church in Bronx, NY. He is predeceased by his wife Tina and his four siblings. He is survived by his children, James (Carrie), Michael (Cathy), John (Laura), Pamela Nieto (Joseph) and Vincent (Fernando); his 13 beloved grandchildren, Katelyn, Deanna, Jennifer, Kelly, Jill, Cara, Emma, Michael, Alison, Daniel, Matthew, Gabriel and Jessica as well as many nieces and nephews.
Michael loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and supporting them in their activities and events. He enjoyed returning to Ireland as often as he could to spend time with family and friends.
Friends may call on Sunday, July 30 from 1-5 pm at Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home, Mahopac. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 31 at 10 am at St. John the Evangelist Church, Mahopac with interment to follow at St. Lawrence Cemetery, Brewster.
