Alice C. Bigger
January 2, 1936 – April 8, 2024

 

Alice C. (Amrell) Bigger, 88, a pillar from the community of Westbrookville, New York, passed away peacefully surrounded by her beloved family on the evening of April 8, 2024, at Garnet Health Medical Center. The daughter of the late Frederick H. Amrell and Janet S. Gaskell Amrell, born January 2, 1936, in Bronx, NY. Alice’s life was marked by dedicated service and unwavering commitment to her community and values.

In 1969, Alice married Hugh F. “Frank” Bigger, together they raised their children. Throughout her life, Alice remained deeply engaged in a variety of career paths and local organizations, leaving an indelible mark on the community she cherished. Alice was a founding member of the Port Jervis Volunteer Ambulance Corps, as well as working with the veteran community, newborns, and special education students. Alice then went on to become campaign manager for her husband Frank Bigger who ran for Orange County Sheriff in 1998 and won. The two could always be found by each other’s side during Frank’s time as Sheriff.

A proud and passionate Republican, Alice dedicated over six decades of her life, starting in 1960, serving on the Warwick, Town of Deerpark, and Orange County Republican Committees. She represented the voices of the committee with integrity and fervor. She went on to become the Chairwoman of the Town of Deerpark Republican Committee from 2003 to 2011. Additionally, Alice served as a valued member of the Orange County Republican Executive Committee, leaving an enduring legacy of leadership and dedication.

While Alice loved being involved in the community, her family brought her the most joy. Alice looked forward to going to Wildwood, NJ every summer to spend quality time with her family. Often here is where she can be found relaxing poolside with a cocktail or liking one of your Facebook posts. Alice had countless accomplishments throughout her life, however she took the most pride in raising her family.

Preceding Alice in death was her beloved husband, former Orange County Sheriff H. Frank Bigger, her ex-husband, Frederick Ebbecke, Sr., daughter Donna Lee Ebbecke, grandson James Richard Patterson, great-grandson Dillon Thomas Ebbecke, sister Barbara Devine, sister-in-law Jennifer Amrell and brothers Frederick and Phillip Amrell. She is survived by her devoted children: Frederick Jr. Ebbecke (Michelle) of Pasadena, TX, Janet Burigo (Joseph) of Ormond Beach, FL, Richard Ebbecke (Debra) of Ormond Beach, FL, William Ebbecke (Christine) of Winter Garden, FL, Alice Patterson (Scott) of Westbrookville, NY, Bernadette Bigger of Conway, AR, Tammy Galligan (Michael) of Cuddebackville, NY. Grandchildren Freddie, Sandy, Victoria, Bobby, Thomas, Candice, Michael-Ann, Matthew, Tony, Christopher, Joey, Janet-Marie, Ricky, Jaime, Kelly, Joe, Billy, Jessica, Crystal, Scotty, Alyssa, Kayla, Michelle, and Andrew. As well as, 55 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren, who will carry forward her legacy of love and service. Also surviving her brother-in-law John Devine, sister-in-law Betty Garrity, and beloved cat Bella.

The family would like to thank Dr. Ramaswamy, Dr. Ferguson, Dr. B Singh, Nurse Shari Wagner and all the other nurses on the fifth floor at Garnet Health Medical Center that helped Alice with such compassion and support during her last days.

Friends may call at the GRAY-PARKER FUNERAL HOME, INC. 100 East Main Street Port Jervis on Sunday, April 14, 2024, from 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 15, 2024, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM in Holy Name R.C. Church, 45 Highland Ave., Otisville, NY with Fa. Michael Palazzo officiating.

Burial will be at St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Warwick, NY.
