POUGHKEEPSIE – The Dutchess County Legislature is considering a $1.2 million bond to fund two county park expansion projects.
Quiet Cove Park in the Town of Poughkeepsie will be completing $975,000 in phase four planning and design improvements. Lake Walton Preserve in the Town of East Fishkill will receive its first financial commitment of $225,000 for planning and design of two access pats and a universally accessible path.
The Public Works and Capital Projects Committee is scheduled to vote on the funding on Monday with full legislature taking up the request on Thursday, December 3.
Legislature Budget and Finance Committee Chairman Will Truitt, whose district includes Quiet Cove, said he has “complete confidence in the financial stability of the county and the capacity to take on this additional debt service.”
Assistant Majority Leader John Metzger, whose district includes the Lake Walton Preserve, said the Dutchess County Rail Trail “over the past decade has become an integral part of the Southern Dutchess community and lifestyle.”
He said the “passive parkland of Like Walton will allow persons of all abilities to nestle themselves into nature by spending time picnicking, bird watching or strolling through wooded forests on the sensory trail.”
