Troopers continue to investigate 45-year-old Dutchess County homicide

WAPPINGER – State Police are continuing to investigate the 45-year-old murder of a Dutchess County man.

At about 11:55 p.m., on Wednesday, November 17, 1971, troopers found Leonard Monette, 54, of

, dead in a dark storeroom at the rear of Eddie’s Service Station on County Route 28 in the Town of Wappinger.

Monette, the night attendant at the Texaco station, suffered from head injuries and had been stabbed in the back. It is believed that Monette was killed following a robbery at the gas station.

Police followed several leads throughout the investigation, but, the suspect has not been brought to justice.
