POUGHKEEPSIE – Da’Ron Wilson, a lifelong resident of the City of Poughkeepsie, has announced that he will seek the Democratic nomination for Chairperson of the City’s Common Council. Wilson is a combat veteran with two decades of employment in the Poughkeepsie City School District. He currently serves as the Executive Director of School Engagement for the district.
Mr. Wilson has worked with such organizations as the Northside Community Center, Harambe, PACMAN, Real Skills, Protect the Dream, and Upward Bound.
“There is a city-wide understanding that the chief role of the Common Council Chairperson is to facilitate good government by working collaboratively with others and to lead the Council to consensus around the many critical issues that face our City”, Wilson said. “For too long the Council has been divided and divisive, and the reputational damage this dysfunction has caused our city cannot be undone solely by the resignation of the former Chairperson,” he said, referring to the resignation of Sarah Salem after she was convicted of a DWI. “Under the leadership of Chairwoman Brown who took over in December, there has been an emphasis on working together, and that needs to continue”, Wilson added.
