VALHALLA – Gold Star Mothers, those whose sons and daughters gave their lives in defense of our country, were honored at a tribute ceremony in Valhalla on Friday.

State Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart Cousins of Yonkers noted that is “a club nobody wants to be part of” and is a member but for the sacrifice of their child.

Westchester County Executive George Latimer said the nation honors those mothers and their sacrifice.

“We tell those mothers your sacrifice was forever, and your child’s sacrifice and who is gone from the earth, but you remain here on earth every day of the rest of your life to think about that child that was sacrificed, and sacrificed because we, the society, through the government and military, ask you to make that sacrifice,” he told those at the ceremony. “That’s an incredible sacrifice.”

A rifle salute and Taps concluded the solemn ceremony.
