The pool in Monticello opens for the season

MONTICELLO – On Monday, July 1st, the village of Monticello opened its community pool in Dillon Park. Preparations were underway to make sure that the pool was in good condition and ready for the public to cool off.
Village Trustee Gordon Jenkins said that even though the pool is small it’s important for the young people. ”It’s almost like gold to them because they have nowhere to go and just to have kids go there and run around and jump in the water, you can’t beat that.”
A splash pad is being constructed in DHoyos Memorial Park and it will be a welcomed addition to the pool. Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther secured a $300,000 grant for the project.
”That’s going to be even more exciting in the village, not just the swimming pool but now you have that splash pad so now that’s going to be like the icing on the cake when they go for that and the swimming pool. That’s good for the kids.”
The pool will be open from 12 noon to 6 p.m. every day except Monday. It’ll be open from now through September 1st, and it’s free for village residents to use.
