Putnam County celebrates Parole, Probation Supervision Week

CARMEL – Community corrections is an essential part of the justice system and in Putnam County, lawmakers have declared the week of July 21-27 as Probation and Parole Supervision Week to commend corrections professionals for upholding the law and at the same time recognizing the right of the county’s 98,000-plus residents to be safeguarded from criminal activity.

The county legislature’s proclamation at Tuesday’s regular monthly meeting was presented to Probation Director John Osterhout, who explained the mission of his department was to “protect the safety and well-being of the people of Putnam County by diligently supervising the juveniles and adults placed under the department’s direction by the family and criminal courts.”

Osterhout also noted members of his department “strive to assist individuals in addressing their various problems and needs in order to become productive members of the community. We also assist crime victims in restoring their lives through reparation and with referrals to community resources.”
