Fireworks set in City of Newburgh

CITY OF NEWBURGH – The City of Newburgh will hold its annual Independence Day fireworks display on July 4.

The fireworks display will be launched at 1 Washington Street (a.k.a. People’s Waterfront Park), at around 9 p.m. Setup time will begin at 6 p.m. To help protect public safety, 1 Washington Street will be closed to the public from the time of setup until the event has concluded.

The City of Newburgh Police Department will close the following roads on July 4:

Colden Street (from Water Street to Washington Street) 

Broadway (from Grand Street to Colden Street)

Renwick Street (from Edward Street to Water Street)

There will be a food truck festival on lower Broadway from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. As such, Broadway (between Liberty Street and Grand Street) will also be closed to vehicular traffic.

City officials remind residents that the possession, sale and use of fireworks and sparking devices are prohibited in Newburgh per local law.

All types of fireworks and sparking devices are prohibited, including sparklers, firecrackers, spinners, fountains, bottle rockets, and Roman candles. People found possessing or using these devices risk a fine and arrest. Illegal fireworks will be seized.
