DPW workers removing the tree for Civic Center Plaza

POUGHKEEPSIE – A taxi driver narrowly escaped injury after a large tree limb fell on his car Monday afternoon in Poughkeepsie.  The large limb fell from a tree on Civic Center Plaza near the intersection with Mill Street around 4:05 p.m.

The driver was heading north on Civic Center Plaza when the limb came crashing down to the road and a portion of the branches completely covered the vehicle that was stopped at the red light.

City of Poughkeepsie police shut the road down between Main and Mill Streets and workers from the city’s tree department responded to cut the tree away from the vehicle.

When enough brush was removed, the car was able to pull away to the other side of the street to inspect the damages.

The road was reopened around 5:00 p.m.
