MIDDLETOWN – Camille O’Brien has conceded the Conservative line to Lou Ingrassia Jr. after losing to him in the 100th Assembly District Republican primary on Tuesday.

Ingrassia defeated O’Brien 1,249 to 858 in the primary. The NY-100 consists of Middletown and Wallkill in Orange County and most of Sullivan County.

“As a united front is needed to flip this Assembly seat red and help to break the Democratic super-majority in Albany, I will be stepping off the Conservative line to give Lou the best chance at victory,” O’Brien wrote on her Facebook page. “As I’ve said from the start, the only way things are going to change in this state is if we deflate the Democratic majority to bring conversation back to the legislative process.”

Ingrassia, a Town of Wallkill resident, will face Democrat Paula Kay in November’s general election. The NY-100 seat has been held by Democrat Aileen Gunther for decades, but she is retiring at the end of the year.

In 2022, Gunther defeated Lisa LaBue by just over 4,700 votes, and without the incumbent in the race, this year’s NY-100 election is expected to be one of the more competitive this November.
