Carp fished from Lake Carmel

LAKE CARMEL – The 2024 edition of Lake Carmel’s annual fishing derby will be remembered for years to come thanks to a man who caught one of the largest fish ever recorded in Lake Carmel.

Brandon Gray-Devitt was fishing from the lakeshore along with 100 other anglers when he felt a tug on his line.

Minutes later, a 30.5-pound grass carp surfaced, making the catch the largest of the competition.

Fishing is in the genes for the Gray-Devitt family since the champion’s 16-year-old son Lennox took top honors in his age group followed by Margaret Maguire and George Wolf.

In the 11–16-year-old age group, gold medal honors went to Kaitlyn Ardisana, followed by a silver trophy presented to Lucas Mullaney.

Sebastian Fernandez brought home the gold in the 10-year-old and under age group, followed by Reilly Paprinos who was awarded the silver and Shea Morrissey, the bronze winner.

Rob Ulich, chairman of the event, thanked those for participating in Saturday’s annual derby.  He also was appreciative to members of the Kent Police led by Chief Kevin Owens and State DEC Police for assisting at the scene.
