Firefighters save man from bleeding to death

POUGHKEEPSIE – City firefighters were dispatched to the area of Smith and Mansion Streets in Poughkeepsie just after 1 a.m. Sunday for a report of a man suffering from a stab wound.  Poughkeepsie firefighters from Engine 2 pulled up to the intersection three minutes later and the only person there was the victim, suffering from a life-threatening laceration to his abdomen.

The firefighters immediately began life-saving techniques on the man who had lost what was described as a “tremendous amount” of blood.

When the ambulance arrived, the patient was quickly transported to the hospital while one firefighter accompanied the crew, continuing to administer treatment.

The patient was rushed into surgery at a Poughkeepsie hospital for further treatment.
