COLD SPRING – It’s now official. Fees for metered parking on Main Street in Cold Spring from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday have been decreased from $4 per hour to $2 per hour while the maximum time allowed for metered parking has been increased from three to four hours with the minimum reduced from 60 to 30 minutes.

The village board also approved a small no-parking zone on Kemble Avenue between Wall Street and The Boulevard to improve sightlines during pickup and drop-off at the Foundry Montessori School in the former VFW hall.

The changes came after Cold Spring merchants expressed dismay after village officials implemented the strict new parking regulations, fearing loss of customers due to stiff fines and exorbitant hourly parking rates.

The board listened to the business owners and revised the rates.

Those violating the meter regulations will be fined $75 per incident.

Cold Spring Mayor Kahleen Foley said the village is now building a website that will include detailed information about parking throughout the village.
