PLEASANT VALLEY – An emotionally disturbed man has barricaded himself in his house, armed with a knife after police attempted to serve an arrest warrant on him Monday just after noon.  The man refused to comply with the Dutchess County Sheriff’s deputy attempting to make the arrest and began throwing canned goods at the deputy, who then requested assistance.

A short time later, a full standoff with the man, named “Dan” according to officials, began.

Members of the sheriff’s emergency services unit (ESU), commonly known as SWAT, have surrounded the two-story house while pleading with the man to “throw the knife out the window and come out of the house.”  The ESU is being supported by the UAS (drone) unit from the sheriff’s office and K9 Andy, and handler Deputy Bill McKay.

As of 5:30 p.m., several rounds of CS Gas (tear gas) and multiple flash grenades have been fired into both the front and rear of the house but the suspect has failed to surrender.

Law enforcement has members of the Pleasant Valley rescue squad on standby at the scene to treat any potential injuries.
