COLCHESTER – A storm that tore through southern Delaware County early Sunday afternoon killing one person at the Russell Brook campsite, an emergency services official said.

Others at the campsite were reported to have been injured.

Bryan Greenblatt, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, said it was likely not a tornado. “Based on radar, it was likely a microburst/straight line winds and not a tornado, but the official determination will not be made until the survey team finishes their survey,” he said.

The Roscoe Fire Department, which covers territory on both sides of the Sullivan-Delaware County line, responded to the call.

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office and Colchester Police handled the incident.
