BUSHKILL, PA – National Park Service rangers and dive team members recovered the body of a missing swimmer from the Delaware River Saturday evening.  The river separates Pennsylvania from New York in the Tri-States area.

The 24-year-old Jackson Township, NJ man was last seen swimming in the Delaware at Milford Beach at about 3:15 Saturday afternoon, June 29.  Witnesses on shore reported seeing Jeysson Ariel Osorio-Reyes swimming mid-channel in the river, about 75 yards from the Pennsylvania shoreline, before disappearing under the water’s surface.

National Park Service Public Affairs Specialist Kathleen Sandt reported search crews scoured the river, both above and below the surface, employing surface searches, teams of divers, and side scan sonar until locating and recovering the victim at about 7 p.m. the same evening.

Searchers included members from Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area and Upper Delaware National Scenic and Recreational River and volunteers from the Milford Fire Department, Milford Ambulance, Port Jervis and Bushkill Dive Teams, and Dingman Township, Sparrowbush, and Huguenot Dive Rescue Teams

NPS reminds everyone that while the river’s surface may appear calm, a strong, swift current lurks below.  This current is strong enough to knock a person off their feet and sweep them away. River depths can also change rapidly, going from knee-high to well over a person’s head in just a few steps. Park rangers encourage everyone who is on, in, or near the river to always wear a properly fitted and fastened life jacket at all times to keep themselves safe.
