KINGSTON – A Kingston man awaiting transfer from the Ulster County Jail to a state prison on a drug conviction has been indicted on additional charges of concealing drugs inside his body.

Peter Bonavita, 49, was sentenced on June 13 to 4 ½ years in prison on drug charges and one to three years in prison for conspiracy to distribute drugs in the Ulster County Jail.

While awaiting transfer to a state prison, county jail corrections officers determined he was concealing unknown contraband in his body.

After four days it was recovered and determined to be a synthetic cannabinoid, known as K2 or Spice, with a street value of thousands of dollars.

He was charged on June 26 with promoting prison contraband and if convicted, faces up to 3 ½ to seven years in prison in addition to his previous sentences.
