Ulster Executive Jen Metzger signs legislation dedicating room tax money to housing and transportation

KINGSTON – Ulster County Executive Jn Metzger has signed legislation requiring that 25 percent of annual hotel/motel room tax revenues be allocated to the county’s Housing Action Fund and another 25 percent to public transportation initiatives.

The bill, approved recently by the county legislature, also sets aside another 10 percent of tax revenue to the county tourism efforts.

At the current tax collection rates, the new policy would add $1.5 million in 2025 to support the development of new housing. Last year, the legislature approved Metzger’s proposal to create a $15 million Housing Action Fund to support housing projects that are affordable and meet energy and sustainability standards. The first round of awards is expected to be announced next month.
