NEWBURGH- Triplet brothers Christopher, Christian and Jonathan Recinos of Newburgh have been accepted to the US Naval Academy.

The three young men, who are 2020 graduates of San Miguel Academy in Newburgh, reported for Induction Day on Thursday when first year midshipmen begin a summer of physical and academic training before the start of the academic year.

The academy is among the most selective colleges in the country. Its class of 2027 received 14,727 applications. Of those, 1,379 were offered appointments to the academy with 1,175 accepting them.

“Being accepted to a service academy is no small feat; to have all three Recinos triplets accepted to the Naval Academy is a historic accomplishment that speaks volumes of their character, integrity, and moral fortitude,” said Congressman Pat Ryan, who nominated them.

Ryan himself is a graduate of the US Military Academy at West Point.

“San Miguel Academy stresses the importance of character development and gratitude for the array of educational opportunities possible in this great country. To have three boys from our small program appointed to the Naval Academy is not only historic for our program, but is also quite meaningful for our nation,” said Father Mark Connell of San Miguel Academy.
