CARMEL – The United Way of Putnam-Westchester and Door Dash last summer provided 105,750 meals to families with limited transportation access with the hope of surpassing that number this year.

Nationwide, Door Dash marked 100 million meals delivered through Project DASH – its initiative to empower food banks, food pantries, and other social impact organizations to deliver food and essential items to people experiencing food insecurity.

Next month with the help of Door Dash, United Way’s Ride United: Last Meal Delivery initiative will be delivering essential items to people with limited transportation access – especially seniors, families and children.

Faith Butcher of Mahopac, United Way chief impact officer said since 2020, “our efforts have resulted in an estimated 1.7 million meals over 144,000 deliveries. Food delivery allows organizations like United Way to break down barriers to food access, serving vulnerable populations in an effective and dignified way.”

Butcher called Door Dash a “fantastic partner by allowing United Way to bridge the gap allowing for deliveries to occur.”

United Way is currently accepting sign-ups for the summer program that gets underway July 11 at the Kent Library and Putnam Valley Library where shelf stable food and food for children who receive free or reduced lunches from their schools will be available.

Information is available on the United Way website or by calling 211.
