PHILIPSTOWN – An 18-year-old woman who lost consciousness from exhaustion while hiking the Breakneck Ridge Trail in Philipstown was rescued by New York State Forest Rangers with the assistance of emergency responders from Cold Spring, Philipstown and the Putnam Bureau of Emergency Services.

The unidentified teenager who resides on Long Island was hiking with a companion when she lost consciousness. The hiker’s counterpart called 911 and shared information with the Hudson Highlands Park Manager.

Rangers and staff from the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation hiked up to the coordinates provided by the Putnam County 911 Center.

Ninety minutes later, rescue crews reached the 18-year-old and provided her with food, water, and electrolytes. The crew used a wheeled litter to get the young woman down the mountain where an Empress Ambulance Company paramedic was waiting. The hiker was triaged and transported by the Philipstown Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Hudson Valley Hospital Center in Peekskill-Cortlandt.
