TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – Many residents in the Town of Poughkeepsie’s Crown Heights neighborhood were subjected to an earthquake early Wednesday morning. Many residents in the area between the Poughkeepsie Galleria and the Hudson River reported hearing a loud “boom” at approximately 3 a.m.
One resident of the Spackenkill community told Mid-Hudson News that the loud noises woke up both he and his wife. The man described it as sounding “like a tree fell on my house,” although nothing had occurred.
It was not until later in the day that the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported a seismic event that occurred at 3:02 a.m. in the Town of Poughkeepsie.
Following confirmation from the USGS, Dutchess County Emergency Response published the following on social media:
“At 3:02 a.m. this morning, the United States Geological Survey reported a minor seismic event, measuring at 2.1 on the Richter scale, originating in the Town of Poughkeepsie between Sheafe Road and Camelot Road.”
