NEWBURGH – Broadway merchants and several residents in Newburgh are upset with the new credit card only parking meters.

Merchants say they are chasing customers away and residents say they are too difficult to use and they would rather use coins.

Mayor Torrance Harvey said officials are reviewing the system but make no promises.

“Either changing or updating the software so that it’s more user friendly,” he said. “Those are the conversations that are happening between me, the city manager and the city council,” he said. “We want to know if there is any cost (to a change in the process).”

The mayor did say, though, that they will not go back to coin operated meters. And he said people who want to avoid feeding them, can park on unmetered side streets.
