PHILLIPSTOWN- The driver of a pickup truck is lucky to be alive after his vehicle went out of control and plummeted down a steep embankment along the Bear Mountain Bridge Road, also known as the ‘goat trail’, in the Continental Village section of Philipstown Friday.

Calls to the 9-1-1 Center in Carmel resulted in the dispatching of the State Police, Continental Village FD, Peekskill Volunteer Ambulance Corps and Putnam paramedics.

Arriving responders were advised by a paramedic that the sole occupant of the heavily damaged truck was out of the vehicle. When firefighters arrived moments later, a crew climbed down to the pick-up and assessed it, clearing a path for its removal from the woods.

State Police and Fire Police from Continental Village and the Fort Montgomery Fire Departments were pressed into action by closing the heavily traveled road in both directions from the Bear Mountain Bridge to the Annsville Traffic Circle until the vehicle was removed and a fuel spill was contained and cleaned up.
