PUTNAM VALLEY – While many schools throughout the region were forced to curtail classes or dismiss before noon each day due to this week’s excessive heat and humidity, it was business as usual in the Putnam Valley School District.

The reason was simple. As Superintendent Jeremy Luft explained, “Putnam Valley’s long-term investment in sustainable energy, specifically the installation of geothermal heating and cooling in each of our buildings, afforded our students and staff building-wide air conditioning.”

He said while many districts in the region “were forced to explore alternative learning spaces and truncated schedules, our schools remained open for all students and staff.”

Luft said the weatherman “was right on the money this time and we closely monitored the health and safety of our students.  As deemed necessary, outdoor activities were moved indoors.”
