TOWN OF WAPPINGER – A motorcycle rider was seriously injured in an early morning accident on Route 9 at Myers Corners Road in Wappinger on Thursday.  The accident occurred at approximately 6:20 a.m. and required a medevac helicopter to transport one patient, according to Hughsonville Fire District Deputy Chief William Beale.

The motorcyclist collided with an SUV and became trapped under the vehicle, requiring firefighters from the Hughsonville and New Hackensack Fire Departments to remove the victim from under the vehicle.  The first responders stabilized and lifted the SUV off the rider in approximately seven minutes.

Route 9 was closed in both directions and firefighters established a landing zone for the medevac helicopter that was landing on Route 9 in front of the Wappinger Plaza to retrieve the patient and fly them to Westchester Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries, which occurred at 7:12 a.m.

The northbound lanes of Route 9 were closed for approximately three hours as the State Police conducted an accident investigation.

Hughsonville Fire Chief Paul Rogers, Jr. said, “My thanks to our partner agencies for their quick response and assistance at this critical situation. We regularly train with our mutual aid partners for incidents of all types, and today’s seamless operation was a testament to that training.”

Several Town of Wappingers EMS paramedics and members of the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
