PATTERSON – A resident of Connecticut was killed this week when his car struck an oncoming vehicle along Route 311 in Patterson before slamming into a tree.

The tragic crash took place Tuesday shortly before midnight in the vicinity of a railroad trestle along the winding road.

According to Undersheriff Thomas Lindert, arriving deputies found an Infiniti that was on the shoulder of the roadway and an Acura that was off the road into a tree.

Lindert said Friday “it took several days to identify the victim as Rashan Hall, 24, of Waterbury, Connecticut.” His female passenger was also transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment.

The driver of the Infiniti, 35-year-old Ayesha Smith of Patterson, told deputies that she was driving north on Route 311 when she observed the Acura driving southbound and coming towards her in her lane at a high rate of speed. “As she attempted to turn to avoid a collision, the Acura struck her vehicle on the passenger side, continuing before colliding with the tree,” Lindert said.

Calls for EMS sent members of the Patterson Fire Department, Patterson Community Ambulance Corps and Empress paramedics to the scene.

Smith was transported to Danbury Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries while the driver of the Acura, who carried no identification was pronounced dead.

Lindert said the crash is being investigated by members of the sheriff’s office along with the New York State Police Troop K Collision Reconstruction Unit.
