CARMEL – Carmel High School’s commencement resembled a sauna Thursday evening when temperatures on the school’s athletic field flirted with 100 degrees—making the graduation one of the most uncomfortable in recent memory.

Despite the oppressive heat and humidity more than 2,000 guests cheered the 331 members of the Class of 2024 as they received their diplomas.

Many in the class are headed to some of the finest colleges and universities across America while others have enlisted in the military or landed jobs.

Valedictorian Luke Walters will be attending the University of California College at San Diego this fall while the Class Salutatorian Jennie Belle Aliaga is off to Princeton University in New Jersey.

Three of the graduates have enlisted in the U.S. Marines including Jacob Vishinski, Tyler Travis and Chris Capalbo.

Valeria Vega Barba (pictured below) arrived from her native Ecuador three years ago without speaking a word of English and with the assistance of her teachers and sister became one of the 331 graduates of the Carmel High School Class of 2024.
