NEWBURGH – Ray Harvey of Newburgh is president of the Newburgh-Highland Falls Chapter of the NAACP. He is also a community activist who was out on Tuesday reminding people living within the Enlarged Newburgh City School District to get out and vote on the district budget which failed in the May vote.

He is also a believer that the Juneteenth holiday being celebrated today is important to all Americans.

“It means to me now that other people can learn about the history of African Americans that helped build this great nation of ours because our history was never told. Now we can tell our history and get all the people to understand the contributions that my ancestors did to make this country the great country that it is,” he said.

Juneteenth is a national holiday as declared by President Biden so federal government offices are closed.

Many communities around the nation celebrate the day with festivities.
