COLD SPRING – Carl Albano, Garrison’s recently retired superintendent of schools, is moving down the road to serve as the Haldane School District’s interim superintendent of schools for the 2024-25 school year.

Albano was appointed to the post Tuesday by the Haldane Board of Education at its meeting in Cold Spring. He will succeed Philip Benante who leaves Haldane next week after accepting a new position in Dutchess County.

Haldane Board of Education President Peggy Clements said Albano “brings a wealth of experience gained throughout a career dedicated to public education.”

She said his background “aligns with the key areas our board was looking for in an interim superintendent,” noting he has “a proven track record of leadership at small school districts in the region, including experience managing a capital project.”

Clements said Albano impressed the board as “a creative problem solver who will be dedicated to working collaboratively with the district’s administrative team, engaging with the community, and working hard to ensure that our students receive an excellent education.”

Before his tenure in Garrison, Albano served as superintendent of the Tuckahoe School District in Westchester from 2016-2020.

Albano said he “looks forward to working closely with Haldane’s highly competent faculty, staff, and administrative team to prepare for the upcoming school year, and meeting the students, parents and community members in September.”
