BEACON – City of Beacon Police Chief Sands Frost officially retired on Friday, following a career spanning more than 40 years in the city’s police department.  His final walkout was attended by family, friends, past and current elected officials, and members of law enforcement from several agencies.

Frost, 61, began his career with the Beacon Police Department as a patrol officer on July 11, 1983, while also serving in the United States Marine Corps Reserve.  His 22 years of service in the Marine Corps began in 1981.

Seven years after being hired, Frost was promoted to detective in the Narcotics Bureau where he served for two years before being named patrol sergeant in 1992.  He stayed in that supervisor position until 1998 when he was named detective sergeant.  Frost remained in that post until he was once again promoted in 1998, becoming lieutenant in the department.  His tenure as lieutenant lasted until April 2020 when he was named acting chief. He was then officially named as chief on January 5, 2021.

Just one month shy of 41 years in the department, Frost told Mid-Hudson News he was looking forward to retirement, with no plans for the immediate future.  “I’ll work but it will be in a much less-stressful environment,” while noting that his wife has a few years to go before she is eligible to retire.  Chief Frost indicated that a move to the Adirondacks after his wife retires is one option he is exploring.
State Senator Rob Rolison, himself a retired police detective, offered an official certificate to Frost, as did Assemblyman Jonathan Jacobson.  Rolison spoke of the dedication Frost has to the City of Beacon. “The chief has been steadfast in his dedication to this city.  He has encountered a wide array of issues while serving Beacon and he addressed every one of them professionally.”
Assemblyman Jacobson told Mid-Hudson News, “It is unusual for police officers to spend their entire career with one department. Chief Frost is extremely respected and beloved by the entire Beacon community,” and he offered Frost best wishes for a long and healthy retirement.
