CARMEL- Carmel Police were summoned twice in recent days to Arms Acres, an alcohol and drug treatment facility, located on Seminary Hill Road in Carmel for reports of assaults.

Lt. Michael Bodi said in the first instance, officers determined that two patients were involved in a dispute while playing a game of chess: “The dispute culminated when one of the patients struck the other with a chair, causing injuries.”

The officer took the unidentified patient into custody and charged him with assault. The individual was arraigned on the charge in Carmel Town Court and was released pending future court action.

The second incident occurred after several officers were summoned by Arms Acres security personnel who reported an aggressive patient.

Lt. Bodo said when Carmel patrol officers arrived they were met by staff members and security personnel who were struggling to discharge the unruly patient: “Our officers made several attempts to deescalate the situation and assist security personnel. Unfortunately, the patient continued to be aggressive toward responding officers and began spitting in the face of two of them who were trying to assist. After a brief struggle the resident of Newburgh was taken into custody and was charged with two counts of harassment and disorderly conduct. He was released without bail and was turned over to Orange County Sheriff’s Department personnel for transport back to Goshen.
