Laborers' Local 17 Training Academy instructor Carl Santana provided OSHA-10 training to NFA students at no charge

NEWBURGH- Students at the Newburgh Free Academy had the opportunity to learn about workplace safety in a recent workforce development seminar hosted by the Laborers’ Local 17 Training Academy.

Trainers from Local 17 provided state-approved Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training to the high school’s welding and construction classes.  The course is a 10-hour safety training program designed to cover safety basics for workers in high-risk industries, such as construction.

The focus of the course, which was led by state-certified instructor Carl Santana, is on general safety and health hazards for entry level works.

The students receive this training at no cost to them in an effort to develop their professional skills, expose them to future career opportunities, and build relationships with local employers.
